1. 사계절의 멋

春は曙、空はいたく霞みたるに、やうやう白くなりゆく山際の少しづつ明かみて、紫だちたる雲のほそく棚引きたる、などいとをかし。

夏は夜、月の頃はさらなり。闇もなほ蛍多く飛びちがひたる。また、ただ一つ二つなど、ほのかにうち光りて行くも、いとをかし。雨のどやかに降りたるさへこそをかしけれ。

秋は夕暮、夕日のきはやかにさして、山の葉近う見えわたるに、烏の寝に行くとて、三つ四つ二つなど飛び行くもあはれなり。まして雁の多く飛び連ねたる、いと小さく見ゆるは、いとをかし。日入り果てて後、風の音、虫の声、はた言ふべきにもあらずめでたし。

冬はつとめて。雪のふりたる、さらにもいはず。霜のいと白きも、又さらねどいと寒きに、火など急ぎおこして、炭もて歩りきなどするを見るも、いとつきづきし。昼になりぬれば、やうやうぬるびもてゆきて、雪も消え、炭櫃（すびつ）火桶の火も白き灰がちになりぬれば悪ろし。

봄은 동틀 무렵. 산 능선이 점점 하얗게 변하면서 조금씩 밝아지고, 그 위로 보랏빛 구름이 가늘게 떠 있는 풍경이 멋있다.
여름은 밤. 달이 뜨면 더할 나위 없이 좋고, 칠흑같이 어두운 밤에도 반딧불이가 반짝반짝 여기저기에서 날아다니는 광경이 근사하다. 반딧불이가 한 마리나 두 마리 희미하게 빛을 내며 지나가는 것도 운치 있다. 비 오는 밤도 좋다.
가을은 해 질 녘. 석양이 비추고 산봉우리가 가깝게 보일 때 까마귀가 둥지를 향해 세 마리나 네 마리, 아니면 두 마리씩 떼 지어 날아가는 모습에 가슴이 뭉클해진다. 기러기가 줄지어 저 멀리로 날아가는 광경은 한층 더 정취 있다. 해가 진 후 바람 소리나 벌레 소리가 들려오는 것도 기분 좋다.
겨울은 새벽녘. 눈이 내리면 더없이 좋고, 서리가 하얗게 내린 것도 멋있다. 아주 추운 날 급하게 피운 숯을 들고 지나가는 모습은 그 나름대로 겨울에 어울리는 풍경이다. 이때 숯을 뜨겁게 피우지 않으면 화로 속이 금방 흰 재로 변해 버려 좋지 않다.

어제의 무리로 오늘의 일상은 무리.

그러나 어제가 왜 무리가 되어야 하는가? 무리한 일이 아니라 그 왜가 참아야 할 것.

생기로운 아침 하늘은 세일러가 또 어떻게 만들어 낼지 이미 심장이 저리다.

첫 세일러. 첫 금촉. 첫 사치.

헤어 나올 수 없는 심해와 같은 필감. 십일 년 동안 맺힌 응어리가 풀려 나가고, ef 촉으로 한자의 흘림체(일단 행서 정도)까지 마냥 뜻밖으로 절로 구현되는(마법사 된 줄), 기술이라기에도 문화라기에도 설명이 부족한 인문 세계의 결정체. 손 안에 쥐어져 외국인의 영혼에 담기는 일본이라는 오롯한 이름의 역사와 유산. 50% 모자란 듯 은연한 펄로 침잠하는 내밀한 자태.

헤이안과 21세기. 내궁과 공방. 여방의 문재와 레진의 발색. 붓과 촉. 이것이 미디어. 그저 잇는 것이 아닌 훌쩍 여는. 명작이 낳은 명작. 마감까지 완벽한 제조력이 선사하는 무한히 자유롭게 모험할 시간.

더 느리게 나으면 될 것 같아. 마음이 가라앉음.

그리고 평생 친구 생겼다. 초서를 거쳐 장한가(대륙 현지 구입한 원서가 책장에서 먼지만 쌓고 있었다.) 술술 필사할 날까지 go go.

일본어는 히라가나를 외우는 데 몇 번 실패해서 더 늙은 이젠 자신이 없어졌는데, 필사는 못 해도 모사는 할 수 있겠지? 하나 있는 하이쿠 책의 위치를 알 수 없음.

나한테도 손에 잡을 수 있는 무언가가 하나쯤은 있는 것이 필요한 때라는 생각이 들어서. 무소유가 과도한 삶.

BBC Radio 4 (2008) The Pillow Book by Robert Forrest <-- 내 이랬을 줄 알았어!!! (바라는 식은 아니었다. 로맨스 스릴러라고. 영국은 뭐든 그대로 하는 법이 없다니까. 좀 샬럿 브론테 분위기네. 포레스트 씨 취향이 세이 쇼나곤보다는 무라사키 시키부 쪽인걸. 겐지의 성별과 신분을 바꾼 격. 원본 잘 살리는 건 역시 독일. 아니. 생각해 보니, 황궁 delicate 화술을 독일어로 구현하기는 어려울 듯.)
