WQXR

WQXR is my favorite classical music radio station.

대학 시절부터 가장 즐겨 찾는 언론 사이트가 뉴욕 타임즈(The New York Times)였다. 그러다 아마 2000년 즈음 사이트의 배너 광고를 통해 WQXR을 듣게 되었다. 레퍼토리가 좋아서 KBS 1FM과는 확실히 수준 차이가 있었다. (KBS가 대중성을 지향하면서 시간이 갈수록 그 격차가 더 벌어져 가는 느낌이다.)

몇 년 전에는 요요마가 자신의 생일에 게스트로 출연하여 인터뷰를 진행하기도 했다.
언젠가는 에릭 사티의 생일이라면서 하루 종일 그의 음악을 틀어 줬다.

토요일에 오페라 한 편의 전곡을 방송하는데 우리 시간으로는 새벽녘이라 매번 놓치고 만다. orz

1시간마다 5분 정도 뉴욕 타임즈의 보도를 들을 수 있다. 진행자들은 곡 소개 이외에 별다른 멘트가 없고, 어쩌다 곁들이면 짧막하면서도 위트가 있어 왠지 기분이 좋아지곤 한다.

"You don't need to practice, practice, and practice to enjoy the classical music. You are listening to WQXR." 들을 때마다 웃게 되는 표어이다.

1939년 첫방 후, 1944년 이래 뉴욕 타임즈가 소유하고 있는 FM 라디오 방송이다. 뉴욕 시 Fifth Evenue에 방송국이 있으며, 엠파이어 스테이트 빌딩 옥상에서 주파수 96.3MHz로 송신한다.

인터넷에 연결하여 windows media player나 realplayer으로 들을 수 있다. 듣기.
iTunes 아이튠즈에서는 채널이 잡힌다.
